Book Description

Gabrielle Boudreaux, the youngest of the Boudreaux clan, is a single mother of her young son, Sam. Running a Bed and Breakfast at the family plantation house at the edge of the Mississippi River, Gabby loves her inn, her boy and her family. She meets new people every day, and takes pride in the house and land that has been in her family for more than five generations. Blessed beyond measure, she’s also lonely, although she would never admit that to anyone. Until Rhys O’Shaughnessy walks through her door, brooding and wounded and the sexiest thing she’s ever laid eyes on.

Rhys has been at the top of his game as a major league pitcher for the Chicago Cubs for more than ten years. Baseball is in his blood. But when he tears his rotator cuff and has to sit a season out, he retreats to Inn Boudreaux at the recommendation of his cousin, Kate, to heal and work toward building his shoulder back to perfect shape with only one goal in mind: to return to the game he loves. But he didn’t plan on being utterly charmed by a devastatingly beautiful woman and her baseball-loving son.

When Rhys’ shoulder has healed and he’s given the chance to return to his team, will he leave the family he’s come to love behind, or will he stay with Gabby and Sam

Review

Easy Charm is the second book in Kristen Proby’s Boudreaux series set in New Orleans. Just like in her With Me series, Proby continues the story of a large family of siblings that are as close as can be. The way that she writes familial relationships makes me want to have six kids and force them into being best friends. Her scenes of family gatherings are so heartwarming and fun that they make me want to be an honorary member.

Now for the good stuff…Gabby and Rhys’ love story. I really enjoyed Gabby’s hardworking attitude and need to run a great business while also singlehandedly raising her son. When Rhys comes into the picture, he fits seamlessly into their family unit. I loved Rhys’ need to always be touching Gabby… who doesn’t love that in a man? His instant adoration for Gabby’s son was really sweet and made for really fun scenes with Sam.

Overall, however, I felt that their love was a little too “insta.” Rhys is a hotshot baseball player that just so happens to fall completely in love with an innkeeper and never questions this instant connection or the new leaf he turns immediately after setting his eyes on her. Well I guess that’s what makes romance novels fantasy….?

Now if you can overlook insta-love or it’s your thing, then you have a fun story ahead of you. Proby writes wonderfully and in such a way that you’ll keep turning the pages and fanning yourself from how hot some of the scenes get! Whew! Don’t expect much drama from this one, but expect hot summer nights and fun family times.
